CBS “The Bold and the Beautiful” Spoilers here with the first throwback spoiler of a new week, and a little something extra special. It appears after weeks of fans begging, jeering, and threatening never to watch again, the producers have decided to have a “Fan Choice” theme week and will re-air the original episode.
Yep, we’re going back to ground zero on March 23, 1987 where it all began. What’s really awesome about this is it’s not just another debut episode either, as they broached a very serious topic even in the 1980s: rape.
During and era where there were a couple dozen soap operas airing throughout the day, it was important for any new shows to make a splash and hit the ground running. Were other shows may have gotten a season or two to work out any kinks, soap operas were on a tighter leash as they were practically a dime a dozen. And that’s where “The Bold and the Beautiful” struck gold.

Hitting the jackpot
Throughout the 1980s and 90s, rape was a serious topic that was regularly discussed in school, television, and so on. Regular plots involved women being attacked but usually getting away. It was stressed to be aware of one’s surroundings and taking measures to protect oneself if needed, since any attacker didn’t care it was against the law.
So, when Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) returns home to find her sister, Katie Logan (Nancy Sloan), battered and scared after being attacked on her way home from college, it caught our attention right away and kept us riveted. Given daytime television to use rape as a way to bring a power couple together (Seriously, we are not kidding), this was a drastic turn from that practice and embraced what primetime shows had been doing for years by this point.
What was also different was most shows allowed us to get to know the character first, to allow us to grow to like them before dropping this kind of storyline. The fact B&B did it from the start was another way they set out to show they were different than what was on.
It worked as we’ve been watching it since, and Katie and Brooke remain beloved characters by many.
Introductions galore
As is usually the case with new shows, we’re shown the principle characters right away, and here we’re dropped right in the middle of a press conference where Forrester Creations’ Eric Forrester (John McCook) is previewing his ne couture line. His sons, Ridge Forrester (Ronn Moss) and Thorne Forrester (Clayton Norcross) are also there, with Ridge getting into trouble as only he can.
Bill Spencer, Sr. (Jim Storm) is introduced as a possible antagonist as he confronts Ridge and warns the playboy to stop dating his daughter, Caroline Spencer (Joanna Johnson), before he sees another woman and breaks her heart.
With the week starting off with a bang, CBS “The Bold and the Beautiful” Spoilers are hoping for some more fun episodes.
