CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers here with a freshly squeezed throwback spoiler for us to kick around and ready ourselves for one of the more powerful episodes we’ve seen this week so far. Of course, we’re only halfway through the week, but we expect the drama to pick up with the 47th Daytime Emmy Awards on this Friday (June 26) at 8 p.m. on CBS.
This episode originally aired on October 6, 2006 and focused on a young Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) as he struggled with his hearing loss as it causes those around him to become more protective and shelter him from any and all threats, perceived or real. It’s an awesome performance for Bryton, and it’s a pleasure to see the interactions between him and the other characters as they seek to protect him from the truth and other issues.
This is going to be a fun but rough one, so let’s be sure we have all our snacks and drinks ready. And the tissues. We don’t want to go into this thing half-cocked.
Why the secrets?
Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) had been fired from her job at Newman Enterprises and came home with a box of stuff from her desk. When she’s approached by Devon and Lily Winters (Davetta Sherwood), she explained that she’d only cleaned out her desk and nothing more. She claimed she took a leave of absence so she could stay home with Devon and learn more sign language. This upset Devon since he didn’t like her making such a sacrifice for him.
Of course, secrets like this don’t last long, especially when they’re being kept from one person — Devon. Once he left the room, Drucilla told Lily the truth that she was fired because of Carmen Mesta (Marisa Ramirez).
Devon eventually found out, and he was livid that Drucilla lied to him, but moved the target of his anger to Carmen after Lily explained Drucilla was embarrassed.
Two strikes, guys. CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers with you good luck on the three-two pitch coming up…
Swing and a…
Wanting to take care of Drucilla after all she’d done for him, Devon headed to Newman Enterprises where he confronted Carmen. The conversation started out peaceful and calm, but no matter how hard Devon tried to convince Carmen Drucilla wasn’t dangerous to anybody, Carmen refused to listen. This led to a heated exchange between them where Devon pointed out he’d seen Carmen go after a married man and asked what kind of crazy was she.
About here, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) arrived and interrupted the argument. Carmen stormed out of the office, but it wasn’t over.
Devon offered to take a cab home, but Neil wanted to drive him. Most likely it was to have a conversation with Devon, but this was the third strike and poor Neil never saw the pitch.
Frustrated with his family smothering him to protect him, Devon stormed out and the elevator closed before Neil could reach him.
This episode left us asking some questions, so we’d like to pick your brains. How do we know when to back off and let someone do it themselves? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to follow CBS “The Bold and the Beautiful” Spoilers for the latest updates, spoilers, and speculation.
