Last night at NXT Takeover: In Your House, the main event saw Charlotte Flair defend the NXT Women’s Championship against both Rhea Ripley & Io Shirai. After a hard fought battle from all three women, Flair would have Ripley locked in the Figure Eight Leg Lock, only for The Genius Of The Sky to crash down onto Ripley and get the pinfall, becoming champion. Everyone was ecstatic that Shirai is finally getting her time in the spotlight, but was this the end of Charlotte’s second run in NXT?
Charlotte Flair Tweets After The Show
After having lost her title, Flair was no bitter or demanding a rematch. Instead she had the following to say. “I’ve been in a lot of wrestling rings lately (I know you all know). Sharing the ring with Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai tonight was a continuation of the legacy of the #WWENXT women’s division…. Paige, Nattie, Sasha, Becky, Bayley, Asuka, Shayna and so many more. This belongs to you now. Congrats Io Shirai”
Considering she wasn’t pinned in this match, you’d expect this to be followed up with a challenge against Io, one on one but that was all she had to say. It seems to point towards this short stint in NXT being done, with it being the shortest reign in the history of the title.
Was Charlotte In NXT Helpful To Anyone?
You can’t deny that the NXT Women’s Championship being defended at Wrestlemania wasn’t huge, and so was Charlotte using her Royal Rumble win to challenge for an NXT title. This could very well be looked at as a game changing moment. However, that is arguably where the good ends. Charlotte beating Ripley at Wrestlemania killed any hype she had, and cooled off one of the hottest stars in the company real quick. Now she seems to be leaving the brand, all without actually being pinned or submitted. It left a sour taste in the mouths of many.
The title program is now likely to shift to Ripley vs. Shirai, with people like LeRae, Nox, and more waiting for their shots. Charlotte Flair will likely stick to Monday Night RAW now, and gun after the RAW Women’s Championship held by Asuka. A feud with Shayna Baszler is also an option, with Flair taking offense to the ‘Queen Of Spades’ name. What do you think will be next for Io Shirai & Charlotte Flair? Should they have one more match?
