Monday Night Raw Preview 6/22) - Rey Mysterio Returns

Over the last year, it’s hard to pick one WWE superstar that’s been picked on and thrown to the wolves more than Rey Mysterio. For every great moment he had, he was handed a dozen or so rough ones, and this made many of us wonder about this future with the WWE and Monday Night Raw.

There have been plenty of rumors about him retiring this year. The only thing he’s been waiting for is his son, Dominic, to make his debut. While Dominic’s been training hard at the Performance Center, Rey has been in storyline after storyline where he faced giants like Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar, and then Andrade and Angel Garza in an attempt to help put Humberto Carrillo over.

Most of those fell flat for one reason or another and just resulted in Rey taking more of a beating and having his legacy tarnished more and more. It’s been maddening and frustrating, but he’s never given up. That’s given a lot of people something to be inspired about as he’s always had a huge heart.

Welcome back

Following the trend his character has been stuck in, Rey will be returning to Monday Night Raw for the first time in weeks since suffering his eye injury (in story) at the hands of the Monday Night Messiah, Seth Rollins.

As great as it is to see Rey back on TV, it’s going to be interesting to see if he’s going to hunt down Seth Rollins and company. Rey’s shown these tendencies in the past when his son was threatened, and considering Dominic took out Rollins last week and avoided Austin Theory and Murphy’s efforts to nab him, this would be the perfect time to go on the attack.

Unfortunately, we’re expecting things to become dire for Rey since they always do for those challenging Rollins, and this could open an opportunity for others. We may see Dominic become involved, along with Aleister Black and Humberto Carrillo come to the rescue and give them a chance to end Rollins’ reign of tyranny.

This could prove interesting going forward, assuming they’ll allow someone to deal Rollins and his faction a serious blow. Despite losing to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 36, Rollins has found a way to refresh himself through Rey Mysterio’s “sacrifice” and that could add an interesting flavor going forward. Especially given that it’s a safe bet to assume Dominic Mysterio is probably in line for the next sacrifice.
