Roman Reigns stepped away from ring action during the early days of the COVID-19 quarantine. This was in part due to concerns about how the virus could impact his immune system because of leukemia. Remember, took a hiatus on medical grounds to receive leukemia treatment in October 2018. Reigns returned to action months later in February 2019.
When Can We Expect Roman Reigns Back?
Initially, there were debate on how WWE would navigate the pandemic. That debate morphed into how WWE was navigating it and concerns over the safety of its superstars. So far, WWE has managed to make it work and a couple of promotions have taken similar steps with fan-free shows.
However, Roman Reigns was still missing from shows. If the rest of the roster was back, surely Roman Reigns could return, right? The short answer is that Roman Reigns said that he would return when everything returns to normal.
Yes, WWE has taken steps to minimize the hazard superstars, staff, and production crew infecting each other. After all, wrestling is physical and it’s impossible for wrestlers to maintain the six feet distance. That is unless matches were decided by a game of rock, paper, scissors or tic-tac-toe on the Titantron—but that wouldn’t be wrestling.
It all depends on when the country’s lock down is lifted or when COVID-19 is strictly controlled.
Return Prediction
I don’t see Roman Reigns making his return at Summer Slam. Since he isn’t doing recovery, he should be in good health unless things take an unfortunate turn and he has to go back in for treatment. His return could be during this fall.
That raises the question of when exactly. Since Reigns is considered one of company’s big superstars, a return at a road to Survivor Series RAW is likely. If he returns on the road to WWE’s biggest fall event, the company will have a brief program in the works so that he can have a match at the PPV.
This is just factoring in that Roman Reigns isn’t included in the Rumble match itself. Whatever feud WWE has on the back burner for The Big Dog should be expected to run into Royal Rumble. There is also the possibility that he could just do a surprise return at Survivor Series.
What is concrete here is that Reigns has been off WWE television long enough to refresh his character. I’d say that isn’t likely. The company hasn’t expressed a ton of interest in turning the four-time world champion heel. However, if there was a time to do it without requiring solid build up on TV, his return would be the perfect opportunity.
