Recently, there has been some Twitter beef between Randy Orton & Tommaso Ciampa. Orton started things by going in on NXT as a whole, “Heard #WWENXT #TakeoverInYourHouse was great! Slappin my leg for you guys. Sincerely #legslap” with Ciampa firing back with “My daughter has been having trouble sleeping. Luckily I found a remedy. Randy Orton matches. Better than NyQuil. Sincerely #AnEntireLockerRoomWhoBustedTheirAsses”
This was the start of a fun little Twitter feud, but could it become much more than that? Will Orton actually get in the ring with Ciampa?
Randy Orton Wants To Face Ciampa
Orton would speak about this feud with CBS Sports, first addressing the leg slap comments. ‘So, the leg slap comment was just me having fun and it got taken a little too seriously. I’ve been outspoken about the leg slap because I’ve seen more and more and more and more and more and more leg slaps. Same with repeating moves. Same with guys using the same move. It’s superkick, superkick, superkick, superkick. Or they’ve got that running knee. Every time any of those things happen, you get a big slap to the leg.’
After explaining what he meant by that, he turned to Ciampa. ‘I think he’s a big fish in a relatively small pond. I don’t mean that as a knock, to be clear. But I want to see him try to become a big fish in a bigger pond. I would like to see him under the pressure to have something like the greatest wrestling match ever. And I would love to work with him.’
Orton Would Be A Great Contrast For NXT
As shown by the Greatest Match Ever with Edge, Orton works a very different style to that of NXT. He’s slower, more old school, but can pick up the pace to match the often frantic NXT style. If he came into NXT, and purely worked his slower style, he’d have fans at his throat quickly. This would also be a great feud to continue the story of Ciampa, who just got absolutely destroyed by Karrion Kross. Coming back from that loss to face an invader like Orton would further boost him as a top babyface for the brand.
They have only met once in the ring, when they briefly met in the 2019 Survivor Series 5 v. 5 v. 5 match, where Ciampa took an RKO. This could easily be a match on any WWE PPV, but would be most effective infront of an NXT crowd. Would you want to see Ciampa vs. Orton down the line? Who do you think would win?
