Shelton Benjamin is becoming a dominant force on WWE Main Event once again, despite his close loss to Cedric Alexander last week. He’s beaten Akira Tozawa recently, and always puts his working boots on. This week he is set to face Shane Thorne, who is looking to bounce back after two losses to Ricochet. Who would walk away with a win?
Shane Thorne Tired To Out Wrestle Benjamin
The match would start like most with a lock up, but Thorne would flee outside of the ring to get a bit more time to get ready for the match. Thorne would go behind with a waist lock, but you can’t outwrestle Benjamin for long. Despite knowing this, Throne would go for the leg of Benjamin and be shut down completely.
Getting a bit rough, Thorne would go for a headlock and grind his knuckles into the forehead. He’d do everything he could to maintain this hold, but Benjamin would go for a backdrop, but Thorne would was able to land on his feet. Thorne would get this match moving, with them leap-frogging and duking under each other as they ran the ropes, only for Benjamin to stop suddenly and catch his opponent off guard with a leg pick before cinching in the ankle lock. Thankfully Thorne had enough left to scurry to the ropes to break this potentially match ending hold.
Now over in the ropes, Benjamin would have to come to grab Thorne, and get a shot to the throat for his troubles. Benjamin would try to come back with a powerslam, but a rake to the eye would let Thorne escape. He’d slam Benjamin’s head into the corner and dash in to hit a huge cannonball senton in the corner as a commercial break hit.
Shelton Benjamin Rallies Back
Throughout the break, Thorne would maintain control. The left arm would become the target, attacking every part of it to try to force Benjamin to submit. A dropkick to the arm would do further damage. However, this was just serving to piss of the veteran. Thorne was just grinding away at him, but not doing much to try and end the match.
This would change with a big Saito Suplex, the first big move in a while. He’d go for a running knee strike to follow up, but that would miss. Benjamin went for a front kick, telegraphing it so Thorne would catch his foot, allowing for the Dragon Whip to be hit.
This kick put the match back in the control of Benjamin, who would be thrown around the ring with ease by the powerhouse. Looking for a German Suplex, Benjamin would lose control of Thorne who slipped behind and tried to lock in the Crossface Chickenwing, showing the reason behind attacking the left arm.
This wouldn’t work and he’d be rammed backwards into the turnbuckle. Thorne would look to create some space with a boot to the face, and go to the middle rope. Benjamin would show his freakish agility as he leaped up with a knee strike, before pulling him off the top rope right into Paydirt for the win.
It is a damn shame Shelton Benjamin doesn’t get to have matches like this on Monday Night RAW. He still has the skills, he just needs the time. Do you think he should be chasing the United States Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
