Another Monday brings us another edition of WWE Raw. You’re here at the Overtimer where you can expect the same coverage as always and that includes a preview of what’s on tap! There’s some interesting stuff for sure this time around so let’s get to it.
Rey Mysterio’s Retirement Ceremony
…Yeah it’s not real. I mean of course not, the first person to mention Rey retiring here is the guy who injured him in the first place, Seth Rollins. And that same guy is going to be hosting it. We don’t even have any reason to think Rey consented to this, even as a trick. The energy is that Seth just decided that Rey’s retiring and he’ll call him to the ring to confirm it. It has every single ingredient in the world of a false retirement angle.
It doesn’t mean something major isn’t gonna go down though. Some have speculated that Rey’s son Dominick might be about to join Seth’s rebuilding stable to make it a foursome again. That would certainly be quite the twist and having Seth, Austin Theory and Buddy Murphy to team with would make it extremely easy for a rookie wrestler to be covered for as he gains experience. That said it could just as easily be another Dominik, as it’s been said that Dijakovic will be reporting to Raw soon. For all we know he’ll be making his debut here this evening and he’d be quite the blue chipper for Rollins to recruit.
Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair
A Champion vs. Champion clash. The WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defeated the NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte a few weeks ago. Not to be undone, the WWE Raw Women’s Champion Asuka wants to try and duplicate the feat. I gotta say, even though Bayley cheated to get one over on Charlotte, it still wouldn’t be the best look in the world for NXT’s champ to lose to BOTH of the other champions. Perhaps Charlotte goes over with some help from Nia Jax, and this possibly sets up a future major Raw title match, maybe at SummerSlam?
Also: Seth Rollins will be busy tonight. He also faces off with Aleister Black! And, Apollo Crews defends his newly won US championship against ‘an opponent of his choosing’. Given their friendship, maybe Akira Tozawa? Or perhaps he wants a major challenge and this is where Dijakovic comes in instead?
