Going into this New Japan Cup match with EVIL, YOSHI-HASHI looked worse than usual. He was limping to the ring, barely able to stand upright. Once he made it to the ring, EVIL attacked like a rabid dog getting it’s supper. Within two minutes, the referee would stop the match and award the win to EVIL. This would be more than just a storyline device to make EVIL look like an absolute killer, it was the damage of a serious knee injury.
YOSHI-HASHI Injured Himself During His Match With BUSHI
During his match with BUSHI as part of the tournament, YOSHI-HASHI would slip and fall, seriously hurting his knee. The spot in question saw him dash across the ring, and he shoved away by a cornered BUSHI’s boots. While going to the ground, his right leg would bend in horrific fashion.
Despite being injured, he would fight his way to the end of the match on one leg, and even manage to defeat BUSHI to make it to the next round, where he would be destroyed by EVIL to write him off TV for the foreseeable future.
This injury could be bad enough to end the career of the 38 year old, meaning that he would be forced into retirment before winning a single title within NJPW.
A Void Will Be Left In The Company Without Him
If this is the end of YOSHI-HASHI as part of the New Japan roster, he will have left a unique spot in the company to be filled. He was the ultimate underdog, someone who would be put into big matches and tournaments, and leave with more fans than he had when he entered.
Always giving a gutsy performance, he’d win fans over to the point where they thought he’d actually beat KENTA for the NEVER Openweight Championship, or Kenny Omega again to earn the right of challenge in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom. Few others could make fans believe like YOSHI-HASHI could.
We here at The Overtimer wish YOSHI-HASHI a speedy recovery, and a safe return to the ring.
