NJPW Landscape: What Is Really On Jay White’s Mind?

“Switchblade” Jay White played nice as Kenta vyed for the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Championship’ during The New Beginning, however his refusal to congratulate Evil, the newest Bullet Club member after winning the titles from Tetsuya Naito may be a sign of things to come.

While being stuck away from the action, he has made his thoughts known regarding the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and how he feels he deserves to challenge for the title.

Surely, now is the time the cerebral Jay White will make his play to become IWGP Heavyweight Champion for the second time.

    Switchblade’s IWGP Heavyweight Narrative

Jay White defeated Kota Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom 14 Day 2 and situated himself as a top contender for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. However, his momentum was stalled after the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Cup was delayed earlier in the year due to COVID-19, which left him unable to participate due to travel restrictions.

Switchblade will continue to gripe and complain until he receives his championship match, and Evil winning the title is unlikely to make him any less hungry to become champion once again.

Jay White can either allow Evil’s reign to play out, cause friction within Bullet Club by refusing to back away from his efforts for a title match, or he could force the hand and attack Evil.

    What Hand Will Switchblade Play?

With Okada, Naito, Kota Ibushi, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Sanada all having their reasons to go after Evil, it’s unlikely Jay White will take a passive role in his quest to return to the pinnacle of NJPW.

One of his closest allies within Bullet Club Kenta is vying for the championship as well, the two could form an agreement of sorts and not fall in line behind Evil.

With so many viable Bullet Club heavyweights, it’s possible Jay White and Evil could meet during G1 Climax 30 later in the year.

The hand Jay White plays could have a domino effect regarding the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
