Right now, the man formerly known as Rusev is battling COVID-19. Many believe he was set to make an Impact Wrestling debut at Slammiversary, before he got his diagnosis. Despite this, we are still trying to figure out where the hottest free agent in wrestling will go once healthy and able. He has been stirring the pot for a whille now, and has mentioned Japan once again.
Rusev Would be Fantastic In Japan
When you imagine a wrestling match in Japan, you likely imagine something hard hitting and fast of pace. This is exactly what Rusev offers within the ring. If you don’t think he’d be a good fit, watch his WWE matches with Shinsuke Nakamura or his title match with AJ Styles, where they worked this exact style.
During a YouTube vlog with his wife, he would say the following to drum up speculation once again. “Once I go to Japan, or you know, wherever I go.” A simple line, but one that is very easy to understand. While this is just another tease, and it would be hard with travel restrictions, it is absolutely something fans want to see. Matches like Rusev vs. Shingo Takagi, Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii and more are enough to get any fan excited.
However, it’s important to remember that NJPW is not the only name in the game overseas. There are companies like DDT, AJPW, and Pro Wrestling NOAH which would benefit greatly from getting someone as well known and widely praised as Rusev.
NJPW Would Work Well If He’s Signed With Impact Wrestling
Given the bulk of teases that Rusev gave towards joining Impact Wrestling, it is likely that he was originally planned to be in the main event instead of someone like Rich Swann. If he has signed with Impact Wrestling, NJPW is still an option. Look to TJP & The Good Brothers and you’ll see them either working or planning to work both companies.
Impact Wrestling, even outside of a pandemic, always does their shows taped. This makes it easy to work around schedules under normal circumstances, as a few days of work in Impact can cover months of TV, allowing performers to travel to Japan for a tour.
Could you see Rusev working both Impact Wrestling & New Japan Pro Wrestling? Where do you want to see him land? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
