CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers here with an awesome throwback spoiler to close out the theme weeks.
This has been an amazing trip back to some of our favorite episodes, and this one, in the opinion of CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers, is the perfect one to end things on.
Soap operas have long mirrored society, and in this case, the episode and the timing of its re-airing is perfect and conveys a great message.
Now, we could be wrong about this as we all see things different and have our own thoughts, but we’re completing a journey where we’ve been able to see and reconnect with some of our favorites from the past.
We’ve gotten to see old friends that are no longer with us in their shining glory, as well as some of their worst moments.
In many ways, the theme weeks mirror the journey Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) and his mother, Lucinda Winters (Nichelle Nicols) travel in this episode.
After years apart, they found a way to reconnect through their good and bad memories.

The ties that bind
In what was one of the most emotional exchanges we’ve seen, Neil finally decided to approach his mother.
Things started amicably enough as Lucinda asked him to come closer, and he mentioned that he talked to her doctors and he said she wasn’t doing well and they didn’t have long.
She called then fools, and things started rolling from there.
Lucinda was proud of the man Neil had become, and how he’d forged a great career and family.
She’d kept up with everything he’d done, but that struck a nerve with him.
He challenged her for walking out on him and their family, and how she had plenty of chances to be his mother if she’d wanted to.
She responded by explaining that she had to leave for his benefit, as her alcoholism had become so great all she cared about was where was her next drink coming from.
An alcoholic himself, Neil understood, but he wasn’t prepared to learn that his father had made it difficult for her to reconnect with their family whenever she tried.
It was part of the reason he had never responded to any of her letters over the years. The fact is, her leaving left deep scars on him, and he was still struggling with them.
Though it was difficult, the walls between the two slowly came down and they slowly became mother and son.
The fact this happened before he lost her is one of the greatest moments we’ve seen, and it added another awesome chapter to the Winters family saga.
