Is Saturday Night's Main Event Coming Back For WWE?

Before there was Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown, there was Saturday Night’s Main Event. It was WWE’s flagship show from 1985 to 1992. Viewers could tune in and see the likes of Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, The Ultimate Warrior, Ted DiBiase, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, and many more absolute legends.

We have seen revivals of this brand in the mid-2000’s on NBC, but the last show that held the Saturday Night Main Event title was back in 2008. Now, WWE is getting the trademark back again, are we set for a Network special?

WWE Might Counter-Program All Out On September 5th

The next time All Elite Wrestling comes to PPV is on Saturday, September 5th. WWE looking to lock down the branding of Saturday Night’s Main Event at this time is suspect to many, and fans are expecting a Saturday Night’s Main Event to be set for that same night to go head to head with All Out.

If they set big matches like a defense of the WWE Championship and used all three brands? They could quickly build a card that would sway viewers away from All Out. All Out is set to be main evented by MJF vs. Jon Moxley for the AEW Championship, with the undercard slowly being built up.

WWE have previously tried to disrupt AEW PPV’s as far back as when they aired the 10th Anniversary of EVOLVE Wrestling against Fight For The Fallen. That was a move that sent a lot of flack their way, given the charity driven nature of the event.

Perfect For Smaller Network Specials

The Saturday Night’s Main Event brand is an incredibly nostalgic one for fans, making it perfect for smaller events to fill the gaps between larger PPV events like Summerslam & Survivor Series. A simple two hour show headlined by big defenses of the Intercontinental or United States Championships would bring fans to the WWE Network. Especially if they leaned into the old school aesthetic for the events, they could have something special on their hands.

They should have zero issues getting this trademark. It’s more shocking they let it lapse in the first place.
