In wrestling, it can be powerful to even just know that you can beat someone, even if you’ve never done it. This is the case for Jeff Cobb & Jon Moxley, who have met twice in the ring. The first time was for New Japan Pro Wrestling in the 2019 G1 Climax, and the second was for All Elite Wrestling. Both times ended with Moxley getting his arm raised after Cobb took him to his limits.
Now, Cobb is one of the favorites to win the USA New Japan Cup, which will give him another chance at Jon Moxley, and the IWGP United States Championship as well.
It’s Just Business For Jeff Cobb
While being on the Wrestle Inc. Daily Podcast, Cobb would speak on Moxley not being able to defend his IWGP United States Championship in America, among other things.
“I respect him as a wrestler, as a fighter. Although, again going back to being selfish, I would love to selfishly win that championship just for the fact that I’ll be able to defend it in America, and it’s called the U.S. Championship. We both live in Vegas, and we plan to get together a couple of times. Our schedules don’t line up as much as we’d like to, but it’s one of those no hard feelings kind of things. Just business. Not if but when I win, then I’ll buy the first round I guess.”
When asked if he knows how he’ll get his shot at Moxley, with him never showing up for NJPW in America before now, Cobb wasn’t too concerned. It’s someone else’s job to get that sorted out, he just has to win a tournament.
“We can wrestle in Antarctica. I mean, that’s a neutral territory. I guess, sure. The bottom line is I definitely got my sights set on Moxley and that championship, and where we wrestle is not my choice, but it doesn’t really matter because my intention is to win that championship.”
Cobb Would Be An Excellent IWGP United States Champion
With Cobb being a proud free agent and always wanting to work more with NJPW, he’s a natural fit to carry the banner of New Japan Pro Wrestling of America. Fans love him, he can put on classic matches, and NJPW previously put the NEVER Openweight Championship on him. If they were able to, they’d likely have him for the G1 Climax this year as well.
A Cobb victory in the USA New Japan Cup is not a longshot, and fans would love another match between him and Moxley. Do you think Cobb will get this match, or will someone else win the championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
