The marquee match of the third episode of New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Strong, the companies new weekly episodic event on the New Japan World streaming service has the finals of the New Japan Cup USA 2020.
Hontai member David Finlay faces Bullet Club member Kenta for an opportunity to make the V3 challenge of IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley at a later date.
This is by far the biggest singles match of David Finlay’s career, while it is another in a long list of high profile matches for Kenta.
A potential match of Moxley against Kenta would capture attention from wrestling fans across the globe, which would bring eyes to the NJPW Strong brand as NJPW attempts to make the program attractive to television networks in the United States.
David Finlay would see his stock as a singles wrestler raise just by being in a match against Jon Moxley, who has more than proven himself as a solos competitor throughout his career.
The headline match of the event features shows the return of Bullet Club member Jay White after being away from the ring when the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) pandemic led to NJPW canceling events at the beginning of March.
White teams with Bullet Club unit mate Chase Owens against Villain Enterprise members Brody King and the returning Flip Gordan who hasn’t wrestled in a solely promoted NJPW event since September 30, 2018, at the Fighting Spirit Unleashed event at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Jay White and Kenta interact with one another and tip their hands on their feelings towards Evil‘s status with Bullet Club in Japan.
The opening match highlights former eight-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion and one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion (as Black Tiger) Rocky Romero teaming up with Adrian Quest (making his NJPW debut) against Danny Limelight and The DKC.
Rocky looks to return to form after struggling to pick up a fall victory during Lion’s Break Collision. It’s also of note that Rocky had harsh words for Rust Taylor on the fourth episode of the series, which could lead up to a future altercation on NJPW Strong.
