NXT Takeover XXX Results: Bronson Reed vs. Cameron Grimes vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Damien Priest [NXT North American Championship Match]

Keith Lee became the first man to willingly give up the NXT North American Championship, not having the time to defend both it and the NXT Championship. Wanting to ensure it can continue to elevate names, he spoke with William Regal about letting it go, on the condition that as many people as possible get a chance to win it. This has led to tonight, where five men meet in a ladder match to name a new champion.

Bronson Reed, Damien Priest, Johnny Gargano, Cameron Grimes and Velveteen Dream are the men in this match. Two former champions, two people making the NXT Takeover debut, and a fast rising star after a great match at NXT Takeover: In Your House. This one is too close to call, but it will be chaos.

    The Expected Start

This one was never going to be anything but chaotic, and by the time Velveteen Dream hit the ring? Priest has already punched him in the face to start this one. Reed would take Gargano out, and then team with Priest to beat down Grimes. Dream would be back in and take out Gargano, Dream and Reed in short order, before Grimes gave him some trouble. Sadly Dream didn’t have a ladder or this one could have been over.

Dream would go for a ladder and be shoved into the stairs by Grimes, who pulled out a very short ladder. He won’t get to the moon with that. Priest would try to take him out, but Grimes would make it into the ring with a proper ladder only to eat a slingshot spear from Gargano. He’d be met by Priest who wanted Razor’s Edge Gargano into a leaning ladder, but would be saved by Reed.

Priest & Dream would be back in the ring with ladders, but Grimes would shove them both off and climb both, only to be crotched between them by Reed, who’d be sandwiched. This wouldn’t keep him down though, and he’d run down Dream & Gargano, and hit a senton on a ladder to crush them.

    An Unlikely Alliance

Priest & Grimes would try to take Reed out, only to be shut down. Gargano nearly got the title as he leaped up a ladder Reed was about to set up, but failed. Reed & Priest would almost take Gargano out, but Grimes & Dream saved him. This alliance would persist, as they wanted to take out the bigger men in this match.

After they’d be mashed with the ladders, Gargano would break the alliance but everyone would be crushed in the corner by Reed. He’d go after Dream who dazed on the top rope, only to be stopped by Priest. Grimes would be behind shortly, and the Tower Of Doom would fall. Gargano was the last man standing, and he’d set up a ladder but be stopped by Reed. Grimes would try to climb the ladder but be hit by Gargano before Reed threw him.

Priest would somehow sneak up the ladder and have fingers on the title before Dream would drop him. Dream tried to get the title but a springboard kick cut his legs out from underneath. Reed would put a ladder around his head Terry Funk style, but almost get a One Final Beat DDT. Dream would try to use the ladder to behead Gargano, instead throwing it to Priest on the outside.

    Enter Candice LeRae

Gargano would be taken out by a standing spanish fly by Grimes, Dream came off the top rope, and Reed would dive through the ropes. Grimes would be the first one up, but Priest was alive and kicked the ladder into his face. This would prop the ladder up perfectly for a dive to the outside, taking everyone out.

Candice LeRae would come to check on her husband, and stop Grimes from winning the match, getting physical with him until Gargano hit him with a ladder. LeRae would hit an hurricanrana on Grimes, taking everyone out, and Gargano would nearly get the win. Reed would oppose him, and would be beaten off, only for Gargano to back from underneath. LeRae would climb up to save the match, but Reed would put her on his shoulders and dive off the top onto Gargano!

    Damien Priest Will Live Forever!

Reed would be back up soon after and climb the ladder, with Priest & Grimes shortly behind. Grimes had a bigger ladder and would be knocked onto the right ladder, and would be fingertips away from victory until stopped by Dream. Dream wouldn’t realize the win was right behind him until Priest got him.

Grimes would take Priest out with the Cave In, and Gargano would be the only one to oppose him with a sunset flip powerbomb off the ladder. He’d take out Priest on the apron, who would land on a ladder, but he’d be hit with the Dream Valley Driver onto Priest. Dream would nearly get the win, before being tipped off the ladder past the barricade by Reed who was alone in the ring.

Grimes would save the match by throwing the tiny ladder at Reed and nearly win the match. Gargano would swing the title into this face, but Priest came up after him. The belt would be freed, Gargano would fall, and Priest is our new NXT North American Champion!

NXT has a great track record with ladder matches, and this one was a spotfest from start to finish. I give this one 4.5/5 (**** ½). Are you happy with Damien Priest as the winner? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
