Last week we would see Ariya Daivari make his way back to 205 Live after a long absence. He instantly picked a fight with his old rival Oney Lorcan, but that won’t be his first proper match back. This will be against a newcomer to 205 Live in Jake Atlas. Will Daivari show any ring rust, or is he still a top contender in the Cruiserweight Division?
Ariya Daivari Shakes The Ring Rust Off
Daivari would be apprehensive to get going in this match, and this would allow Atlas to take control early with some headlock takeovers. A big shoulder block would knock Daivari down as soon as he got up, but he’d break out of another headlock by grabbing the hair of Atlas and moving them into the corner.
Daivari would look to take control properly with a big lariat, but Atlas would flip out of the way and get another headlock takeover, his favorite move on this night. Again, Daivari would break out and hit a big forearm to the back before throwing him to the apron. Atlas would hit a forearm and try to dive through but got a knee to the side of the face.
A dropkick would send Atlas hard to the floor and the aggressive style of Daivari was paying off. Atlas would be slammed all around the ringside area, before being hit with a neckbreaker over the middle rope. Any ring rust has faded, and he would take Atlas apart.
The arm would be the target, with Atlas being dropped in the middle of the ring with an arm lock. This would only serve to grind Atlas down, and once he broke free? He’d be taken down with a running forearm.
Jake Atlas Can’t Close This One Out
Atlas would find his wrist controlled, and he’d wake up and take back control of this match, being relentless before hitting a big German Suplex and a running enziguri for a near fall. A boot to the face would stun Atlas, and a big hammerlock lariat from Daivari would miss allowing Atlas to hit a facebuster for a near fall.
Atlas would set up for the Rainbow DDT, but Daivari would toss him off. Instead, Atlas would opt for a springboard Blockbuster, but the veteran Daivari would slip out of the ring. He wouldn’t be safe there as Atlas dove through the ropes to crash into Daivari.
He’d charge towards Daivari but be hit with a hip toss into the corner. While the referee would check on Atlas, Daivari would try to expose a turnbuckle but be caught. During the argument with the official, he’d be nearly rolled up by Atlas.
A thumb to the eye during a back suplex attempt gave Daivari another opening for the Hammerlock Lariat, which easily put Atlas away. Were you impressed with Ariya Daivari in his first match back on 205 Live? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
