For the past few weeks, we’ve seen shows like Smackdown, RAW, 205 Live and Main Event have new life given to them. While the WWE Performance Center served WWE very well when everything went to hell in a handbasket, it was hardly a fitting venue for them. It was small, disrupted their training schedules, and WWE is always a promotion that wants to be grand. This changed when they started to use Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, or as we currently know it: The WWE Thunderdome.
Decked out with their usual huge stage which allowed pyro, and an endless wall of LED screens for fans to show up in the crowd from the safety of their own homes, it is great. Compared to the tired and dull WWE Performance Center, it’s a massive step up. You would think WWE had to drain their wallets to get all this set up, but that’s far from the case.
The financial details of WWE’s deal with the Amway Center are now known to fans, and they’re shocking to say the least. WWE are going to be running the venue through October 31st, 2020. It could be extended before that date, but it’s the home venue of NBA’s Orlando Magic, and they might be returning there later this year.
WWE Will Run Amway Center Until October On Half The Cost Of A Usual Live Episode Of Monday Night RAW
These following numbers come from a report by Orlando based reporter, Greg Angel, who got a copy of the full contract. WWE are paying $12.5k for events on Sundays (like Summerslam & Payback), and $10k for RAW & Smackdown events, which also includes Main Event & 205 Live. There is also $7.5k for an days they work inside the venue for other reasons, and $2.5k for any day they’re not running it.
This all adds up to about $450k by the end of their deal in October. That is a lot of money to the average person, but not to WWE. They would generally pay around 1 million dollars for every live episode of Monday Night RAW before the pandemic, when they’re paying half that for months of filming.
WWE are saving a ton of money at this time, so naturally we should expect another round of cost-cutting measures as they look to make record high profits this year. Are you amazed that WWE gets to run this venue for so cheap? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
