One of the tried and true ways to initiate a feud is to have them attacked by their next rival, and it looks like we’re going to have a good one heading forward on WWE Smackdown.
Big E’s new singles career is off to a fast start, albeit it he hit s bump in the road last week after calling out Retribution, but he went on later to beat John Morrison.
Of course, afterwards he leveled by Sheamus, but we weren’t able to see anything more as Braun Strowman came out then to cut his heel promo.
Making enemies
The sign of a good face is to have the heels line up to challenge them, to prove they don’t belong and humiliate them.
With WWE Smackdown’s resident bully, King Corbin, tied up in a feud with Matt Riddle, that leaves WWE creative with their next top bully, Sheamus.
Why Sheamus singled Big E out could be simply because Big E was gaining in popularity and Sheamus wants to bring him back down to Earth.
It’s no different than he did with Jeff Hardy, except this time Sheamus will prey on Big E being alone when he’s had the New Day at his side for years.
Their exchanges should be highly entertaining as both are awesome on the mic, and we’re looking forward to what they’ll bring to the ring.
Just seeing these two big bulls going head to head is going to be fun.
If this match happens, we don’t expect it to be a clean victory or even a match thanks to Retribution.
Retribution sends a message
We fully expect this match to end in a no contest due to Big E challenging Retribution as they’ll run in and attack him.
Now, we have two theories that this would answer if it comes to pass.
One is that Sheamus is Retribution’s leader and that’s why he wasn’t attacked last week, or he’s not and just got lucky and his luck will run out this week.
If he’s not, he and Big E will put up a good fight and probably chase them off when the rest of the locker room is sent out to help.
By the way, anyone else notice how Retribution hasn’t attacked Raw’s talent or done damage to the extent they have to Smackdown? Something to think about.
Anyway, our thinking is along the lines of Retribution losing this fight so they can retaliate even more intensely at SummerSlam, possibly in a Big E and Sheamus rematch.
While this faction apparently being based in large part on Antifa has worked against them, they have developed a fan base, and this would put them on the big stage for WWE fans that only watch the pay-per-views.
Of course, their leader could also be unmasked at SummerSlam, so we can’t ignore that possibility.
Will Big E and Sheamus face off this week, and will Retribution’s leader be unmasked?
