Ever since All Out, there has been one man on a rapid rise in AEW. This is Will Hobbs, who is set for his biggest match next week on AEW Dynamite, teaming with Jon Moxley & Darby Allin to face Lance Archer, Brian Cage & Ricky Starks. He’s been officially signed to AEW, and it won’t be long before he’s got gold around his waist.
Tony Khan Is Big On Will Hobbs
Shockingly, his upward rise in AEW is due to him having won over the boss himself. Tony Khan, like many other wrestling fans, was incredibly impressed by him on AEW Dark. Add in his first appearance on AEW Dynamite when he faced Darby Allin to show Allin can beat someone physically impressive, a role which Hobbs performed great in. The Casino Royale was only the start of his rise, with him making it deeper into the match than anyone expected initially.
With the backing of the man who owns the company, Hobbs will become a fast rising star in 2021, something which is well deserved. AEW gave him a chance, he knocked it out of the park. If he can do that again this coming Wednesday? He’ll be damn near unstoppable.
Another Non-WWE Talent For Fans To Enjoy
While AEW has put some good focus on names who haven’t been in WWE such as Jungle Boy, MJF, Sammy Guevara, Scorpio Sky and more, they have caught some flack from fans for their usage of WWE names. This is a valid criticism, as all current male champions are WWE alumni. Over time though, AEW will build up more and more of their own stars, and while Hobbs did have indy experience being an 11 year pro, most fans will have first seen him in AEW.
Him getting a sustained push should distract those mad about AEW signing people like Miro, as it’s more what they want. Fans want to be exposed to new wrestlers to enjoy, and Hobbs is going to do exactly that for many. He’s getting ready to steal the show on Wednesday, even studying the matches of Terry Gordy & ‘Dr. Death’ Steve Williams to learn how to be a more effective big man, putting in that extra work.
