G1 Climax 30 Night 15 saw former IWGP Intercontinental Champion and G1 Climax 29 winner “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi take on former NEVER Openweight Champion Yujiro.
Ibushi came into the match after a physical victory against NEVER Openweight Champion and Suzuki-Gun leader Minoru Suzuki. Yujiro came off a contentious loss to fellow Bullet Club member “Switchblade” Jay White.
Yujiro came prepared to fight against Ibushi, who needed a win the ensure he kept on pace to advance to the G1 Climax 30 Finals. However, Yujiro wanted to make the path difficult for Ibushi, who has logged a lot of minutes during the tournament.
Yujiro even used an Avalance Fisherman Buster in a chain of moves that nearly led to him upsetting Ibushi. However, Ibushi showed his fighting spirit and was able to keep the match alive.
Yujiro kept the pressure on, but he just couldn’t find the key to defeating Ibushi.
Ibushi was able to gain the fall at the 12 minutes and 28 seconds mark with his Kamigoye technique to move him to 12 points, allowing him to advance to the finals if he can defeat former two-time NEVER Openweight Champion and Suzuki-Gun member Taichi.
Yujiro finishes his tournament on October 16th against former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb.
Ibushi having a tough match against Yujiro may give Taichi a better opportunity to spoil the campaign for the G1 Climax 29 winner. However, Ibushi pulled off a similar feet last year when he claimed the G1 Climax.
The only others with an opportunity to advance to the finals are current Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion and CHAOS member Will Ospreay, five-time IWGP and CHAOS member Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada, and former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Switchblade” Jay White.
Ibushi has his chance to push his way to another fantastic finish if he can defeat Taichi.
