The first of two headline matches of G1 Climax 30 Night 11 saw current two-time NEVER Openweight Champion, former IWGP Intercontinental Champion, and former Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Minoru Suzuki face current RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion and former NEVER Openweight Champion Will Ospreay.
Suzuki is coming off a loss to former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, G1 Climax 22, and G1 Climax 24 winner Kazuchika Okada, in a match where he was dominant over the prolific champion.
G1 Climax 30: Suzuki v Ospreay
While Ospreay is coming off a loss to former IWGP Intercontinental Champion and G1 Climax 29 winner Kota Ibushi.
The swing match was the first time Suzuki and Ospreay met in a singles match. Ospreay was caught on his back foot throughout the contest, with Suzuki keeping constant pressure on Ospreay’s arm, making sure his offense was focused on it.
Ospreay was able to counter at points during the match by using his athleticism, yet he was never fully able to string together a chain of offense to put Suzuki on the defensive for a prolonged period of time.
However, Suzuki wasn’t ever able to connect with his Gotch Style Piledriver technique and put Ospreay away. It was Ospreay who was able to gain the fall at the 14 minutes and 26 seconds mark after using his Stormbreaker technique.
Ospreay’s victory moved him to 8 points and gives him a fighting chance to reach the G1 Climax 30 Finals and win A Block. He has Suzuki-Gun member Taichi (October 10th), former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb (October 13th), and former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, G1 Climax 22, and G1 Climax 24 winner Kazuchika Okada (October 16th) remaining on his campaign schedule.
Suzuki faces former IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kota Ibushi and G1 Climax 29 winner Kota Ibushi on October 10th in what is now a must-win match for the NEVER Openweight Champion.
