When the field for the 2020 Super J-Cup was announced, most of the buzz fell to the involvement of Impact Wrestling star Chris Bey. The Ultimate Finesser joins TJP as Impact Wrestling’s representation in the Super J-Cup, though TJP has a rich history with NJPW and has found a lot of work as part of shows like NJPW Strong in recent months. Could this be the start of a new partnership with NJPW & Impact Wrestling?
Rocky Romero & Karl Anderson Feel NJPW & Impact Wrestling Will Be Partners By Next Summer
While speaking to Fightful.com, Rocky Romero & Karl Anderson would mention that Chris Bey being involved in the Super J-Cup is an important step in rebuilding the relationship between both companies. They’ve had a rocky past, but Impact Wrestling once had a presence at Wrestle Kingdom, including matches like Toru Yano vs. Rob Van Dam, and Jeff Hardy vs. Tetsuya Naito.
Small steps like Chris Bey showing he could be a huge asset to the Junior Heavyweight division will go a long way, and it’s not bad to have more partners. Another small step comes in Anderson & Gallows being close to people high up in the NJPW system, one likely being former referee Tiger Hattori, who always saw Anderson as one of his favorites. Once they are able to travel to Japan again, they will be starting a new tenure in NJPW, but are currently making Impact Wrestling their home in the United States.
But right now all we know is something is in the works, the companies are friendlier than they have been in a long time, and that by next Summer, we could be seeing something big in the works.
Poor Treatment Of Kazuchika Okada Sunk The Relationship Last Time
While currently Young Lions are sent to Revolution Pro in the UK or CMLL in Mexico to broaden their wrestling skill-sets, Impact Wrestling was briefly a home for this, and was where Kazuchika Okada spent his time away. Some good came out of this, with him meeting The Young Bucks there, and learning the importance of a strong character. H
owever, he was always destined to come back and be a star, but Impact Wrestling casted him as the rookie sidekick of Samoa Joe, while making him a parody of a character from Green Hornet. Okato is what he was called there, and you won’t find a single notable match from his tenure. It has often been cited as what really soured NJPW on working with Impact Wrestling, alongside unauthorized title changes when the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships were on their programming. However, time heals all wounds, and we could be in for a new era.
Do you think NJPW & Impact Wrestling will make for good partners in 2021? Is this all an elaborate scheme to get The North into World Tag League? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
