NWA Shockwave #1
Eli Drake vs. Jordan Cruz
Kamille vs. Heather Monroe
NWA World Heavyweight Title: Nick Aldis [c] vs. Mike Bennett
Low-Tier
Eli Drake vs. Jordan Cruz was a bit on the brief side but for the most part, it was well-paced. I’d like to see more of Cruz but Drake looked good here.
Even without the crowd he still did his call for a chant. A pandemic couldn’t halt the Gravy Train, it seems. Drake picks up the win in this bout.
Mid-Tier
I’m familiar with Heather Monroe from Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. She’s good in-ring and pretty much made this match. Kamille is presented as a powerhouse and plows through her opponents.
Monroe gave her a fight and I wasn’t expecting it. I was expecting something more like the first bout but Kamille was vulnerable at points and that added to this match. It wasn’t a boring match at all.
Here’s hoping that Monroe makes more appearances once NWA Power returns.
Aldis‘ defense against Mike Bennett was good. It wasn’t the epic that versus Cody Rhodes, Marty Scrull, and James Storm were but it was still a good bout.
The thing is that given a different setting, with fans, and more time this could’ve been another epic for Nick Aldis. Bennett and Maria had a story where this title win would be a massive come up for their family.
Aldis was is in this match like “This is business.” Things started off wild, cool down, there was a close win following Bennett’s piledriver but he fell to Aldis’ cloverleaf hold.
Far from a bad match, it was a victim of the pandemic because I can see this being a much wilder, exciting match than it ended up being.
NWA Shockwave #1 Verdict: Mid-Tier (6/10)
Shockwave had this B-show vibe that dented the main event. It wasn’t the setting as Championship Wrestling from Hollywood films there weekly and I actually love how the camera looks on these shows.
However, the rapid flowing through matches with no promos or angles dented it. On the flip side, I liked how fast the show went by and that it was wrestling-heavy.
The 30-minute format would work perfectly if NWA Shockwave was continued as a B-show with the main title bouts we get being the TV Title. The main event between Aldis and Bennett deserved a bigger stage…or just a crowd.
It’s a conflicting show. The matches were all fine with the women’s bout and World title contest standing out but it didn’t feel like I was watching an NWA show.
