It was recently revealed on NXT UK, that the legendary joshi wrestler Meiko Satomura was joining the brand. However, WWE never just signs one new name at a time. Satomura was just the biggest name of a batch of four joining the NXT UK roster, one that badly needed a boost after the #SpeakingOut movement rightfully cut a hole in the roster. Among these names are Metehan Kocabasoglu (Lucky Kid), Tony Gill (Gurshinder Singh) and Bailey Matthews (son of William Regal)
Bailey Matthews Intended To Make His Name In New Japan Pro Wrestling
The last time Bailey Matthews was in the news was when he popped up at ringside at a New Japan Pro Wrestling event. He had joined the Young Lion program, being a great fit given the history within his name. NJPW took a chance on a young David Finlay, and he’s turned out to be one of their best young names on the roster.
They were ready to take the same chance on Matthews, who would have had a chance to prove himself outside of WWE, where his fathers name holds a lot of respect. However, it was simply a horrible time to start that move to Japan. That initial news came out just before COVID-19 swept the globe, and likely is why Matthews was sure to get home as fast as possible.
The Rookie Of His Group
While we can expect to see Satomura, Gill & Kocabasoglu make their way to TV, Matthews is likely to spend some time in the UK Performance center. Satomura is a living legend, Gill is a former WXW Champion whose faced the likes of Timothy Thatcher, Ilja Draugnov & WALTER, and Gill is a talented student of Lance Storm. Matthews is the least experienced of the group, but is likely going to be bringing an excellent throwback British Style.
You can’t help but feel due to his influences, he will excel in the British Round Rules Style, and could be a future NXT UK Heritage Cup winner. Will Regal publicly endorse his son on NXT UK? Do you expect Matthews to excel in the ring like his father? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
