Karrion Kross was set to run NXT after beating Keith Lee for the NXT Championship. However, due to injury his reign only lasted four days. Now, he has a chance to get back on track, and just has to beat Damien Priest to get back into the title picture. Whoever wins this match is likely to be named the #1 contender for the NXT Champion at the end of the night.

    No Time To Waste

After two of the best entrances NXT has to offer, these guys weren’t waiting long to get started. They’d lock up hard, and not even let it go as they went through the ropes. Neither man wanted to back down as they hit the barricades, before Priest got caught up in the ropes.

Priest threw some kicks and got Kross in the head, following up with more heavy blows. Kross would grab a kick of Priest and manhandle him, lifting Priest up to slam him down. Now in control, Kross just nailed corner lariats on Priest before getting an exploder suplex.

They’d end up back on the outside after Kross clotheslined Priest over the top. He wanted to use the steel steps as a weapon, but was stopped. Back in the ring, Priest was still standing and smiled in the face of Kross. He was defiant, and playing mind games with Kross by shrugging off his blows and not being intimidated.

Priest came back with a huge right hand, before unloading on Kross. A bell clap into an elevated flatliner, but the injured ribs made it impossible to get the Broken Arrow. Instead a big lariat and a sloppy Broken Arrow followed.

Karrion Kross & Damien Priest Went To War

Kross came back briefly, before running into the corner shoulder first. Priest was now focused on the injured shoulder, getting an arm-breaker into a submission, but Kross fought free. More strikes came from both men before Priest hit a springboard senton to drop Kross. Kross came back with a huge clothesline, but only got a two count.

Priest was tied up in the Tree of Woe, Kross exposed the knee for maximum impact on the running knee to the ribs. Kross tried for that second rope Doomsday Saito, but Priest fought free and got Razors Edge for a near fall. A chokeslam attempt on the apron was blocked, but Priest kicked him in the head and nailed a dive over the top. A spinning wheel kick off the top, South Of Heaven, and Kross still kicks out.

Reckoning was countered, and Kross nailed a huge powerbomb for a near fall. Priest hit two big kicks on the outside, before being slammed onto the steel steps, but was still standing. A Doomsday Saito, elbow to the back of the head, and Priest was no longer standing.

This was the best match Karrion Kross has had since coming to NXT by far. His injury might have broke his mystique, but making him more mortal means he can have actual matches, and show he belongs in NXT. A great start to this Takeover caliber card. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** ¾)
