Last week, the first ever female Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic got started up, with Mercedes Martinez & Toni Storm taking on Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter. Storm & Martinez were the favorites to win that match, until the NXT Women’s Champion got some payback from a recent attack from Martinez. Now, Toni Storm has something to say.
The NXT Women’s Championship Is All Toni Storm Wants </h3?
Toni Storm might have not been able to win the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but she has her eyes on something bigger. She has her eyes set on Io Shirai, someone she has beaten in the past, the finals of the second Mae Young Classic actually. Io Shirai cost her & Mercedes Martinez their first round match, and now has been called out.
Storm wants to hurt Shirai. She wants to break her. But most importantly, she wants to add the NXT Women’s Championship to her legacy. Storm is already a former NXT UK Women’s Champion, has a victory in WarGames, and won a Mae Young Classic. Shirai has trouble here. But she never backs down from a challenge.
Shirai would hit the ring, and remind Storm that she is willing to fight her anywhere. Storm took her down for some brawling strikes, before taking a dropkick which sent her out of the ring. At this time, Mercedes Martinez struck from behind and dropped Shirai with ease, making this already combustible situation even worse.
A Triple Threat Incoming?
Martinez grabbed the NXT Women’s Championship, and Storm objected to this, seeing this as her right. Shirai hit a springboard dropkick to both ladies, and wanted to hit Martinez with a big moonsault to prove her point. Storm pulled her off the top rope, and pulled Martinez out of the ring, then drove her into the apron! Clearly this partnership won’t be lasting any longer.
Back in the ring, Storm nailed a trio of heavy hip attacks in the corner, leaving her laying in pain as she picked up and embraced the NXT Championship. With these two huge challengers ahead of her, and NXT Takeover quickly coming on February 14th, it might be time for Io Shirai to defend in a Triple Threat match.
Shirai won the belt at NXT Takeover: In Your House in a Triple Threat match, showing that she can handle the odds. Will both Storm & Martinez get a shot at becoming NXT Women’s Champion?
