After Supernova Sessions with Noam Dar, Ben Carter has a chance to match history with the likes of Santino Marella. By that I mean, he could win gold in his debut match, as this prodigy of professional wrestling takes on Jordan Devlin, with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship on the line! Devlin is making every match going forward a title match to make up for lost time, all to prove he’s the true Cruiserweight Champion. Since then, he’s made two successful defenses, but tonight might be the end.
Jordan Devlin Shows His Experience While Controlling The Match
Devlin won the opening lockup, forcing Carter to the ropes but allowing the clean break. On commentary, McGuinness hyped Carter up as being comparable to men like AJ Styles & Ricochet, but in the ring he was taken to the mat with an armbar by Devlin. Carter used his agility to try and break free, and while Devlin did his best to stop him, he couldn’t keep up and found himself tight in a headlock.
Devlin lifted him up for a back suplex, but Carter rolled through and maintained the hold. Carter was shoved off into the corner, and he just flipped off the corner and across the ring without breaking a sweat. Devlin rushed him, but took a big dropkick. Carter wasn’t backing down, and went for a big dive but ran into the urangage with Devlin following up with a standing moonsault.
Devlin showed he can match the pace of Carter, while also being able to slow things down and show his experience. A scoop slam took Carter’s breath away, before Devlin stepped on his hair and pulled the arms up. Referee told him to stay off the hair, and Devlin started throwing strikes instead. Carter snuck a rollup for a two count, before hitting a big chop and sunset flip, before being flapjacked into the mat.
Ben Carter Is A Star In The Making
Devlin is done taking Carter lightly at this point, and got caught in the corner and had his head slammed off the turnbuckle. He saw Carter go for a springboard, but was faked out! Carter nailed a diving knee strike to floor the champion. He took too long to follow up, went for a monkey flip and got swatted to the outside instead. Devlin once again took control, and threw Carter into the steel steps. Back in the ring, a brainbuster got a two count.
Carter was thrown off the ropes, dodged two lariats before both he and Devlin went for crossbodies and they collided in the middle of the ring. Devlin dodged two swift kicks and got a stiff right hand to the jaw. Carter rolled to the apron, lured Devlin out, and hit a moonsault into a reverse DDT, right on the floor!
Devlin was sent back in, and Carter went for the win with a spinning suplex, but only got a two count. Carter went to the top rope and wanted the Phoenix Splash, and despite missing rolled through. Devlin quickly hit a running Spanish Fly and attempted Devlin-Inside Suplex but that was countered into a Code Red for a two count. Carter went for the dropkick again, but was caught in the Irish Cloverleaf.
He would fight to the ropes, only to be pulled back to the middle of the ring, and have to crawl again to finally break the hold. The damage might have been done, and Devlin nailed some Kawada Kicks to the jaw, nailed Devlin-Inside, and got the hard fought win.
This is how you instantly make someone feel like a star. Carter looked wise beyond his years, and in a few years he will be one of the best in all of WWE, if not the world of professional wrestling. Tonight, Devlin was just a bit better in this fantastic match. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
