Since NXT UK returned a few months back, Jinny has been looking for her shot at the NXT UK Women’s Championship. Instead, Piper Niven has gotten two shots at Kay Lee Ray, while Jinny stewed. After attacking Niven during the recent Falls Count Anywhere match, Jinny has the attention on her. A win tonight, and she finally gets her title match.
Piper Niven & Jinny Brawl It Out
Wasting no time, they would get right into a slugfest in the middle of the ring. Niven threw clubbing blows, and sent Jinny fleeing into the corner. Jinny managed a dodge as Niven ran in, and showed she can throw strikes as well, before being tripped and hit with a senton. This one spilled to the outside as Niven chased Jinny, and showed she’s absolutely the better brawler, even breaking the count after whipping Jinny into the barricade.
Niven wanted to wrap the leg of Jinny around the steel post, but would be pulled right into it instead. Jinny came to the outside, and shoved Niven into the steel again. Unlike Niven, Jinny would have taken a count-out win, but Niven got back in at nine, just to get choked. With Niven weakened, Jinny would just have to keep the pressure on, and she’d do so with the Iron Octopus.
What’s Joseph Conners Doing Here?
Niven fought free, just to be beaten down into the mat, and have the hold reapplied. Finally, she’d power up and hit an Air Raid Siren to break the hold. At this time, Joseph Conners would come to ringside, and no one knew what he wanted. In the ring, Jinny rushed into Niven for a lariat before taking a backdrop driver and a low crossbody block. Conners would shove Jinny out of the way of a rolling senton from Niven to take it himself, allowing Jinny to take advantage.
Back in the ring, Jinny came off the middle rope with a crossbody, but was caught in position for a powerslam. Conners would once again get involved, tripping Nivens up and allowing Jinny to get a rollup, stealing the win! Jinny is the new number one contender for NXT UK Women’s Champion, Kay Lee Ray, and has a new helper!
Some solid brawling from Niven and submission work from Jinny, but a half hearted interference from Joseph Conners for the finish really held this one back. It ended just as things got interesting, and is likely just the first match between these two in 2021. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** ¾)
