Last night, the news broke that WWE had quietly released up and coming monster heel Lars Sullivan back in January. This comes after a series of scandals involving Sullivan, which popped up just after his NXT run came to an end. From racist and homophobic comments on body building forums, to a hidden gay porn past, to sexually harrassing a yoga instructor? Sullivan was getting too much heat for even WWE to keep him around. Despite this, as a free agent many are now wondering, could Sullivan make his way to WWE’s biggest competitor, AEW?
If AEW Won’t Take Marty Scurll, They Won’t Take Lars Sullivan
The short answer is no. However, going deeper into why won’t be hard. When it comes to AEW, they are a company that have really built up a good reputation with fans. This is something that helps them stand apart from WWE. From wasting no time to cutting ties with Jimmy Havoc, to sending Sammy Guevara to sensitivity courses over his inappropriate jokes to Sasha Banks, they’ve generally done right by fans.
They haven’t been perfect on this front, but a clear effort has always been made to keep bad eggs from entering their locker room. If they won’t bother to sign a former member of The Elite in Marty Scurll after his sexual assault allegations, they won’t bother to go after Lars Sullivan, who is essentially just dollar store brand Lance Archer. Bringing in someone like Scurll or Sullivan would just serve to damage their carefully built reputation, and neither are worth that.
Could Sullivan Have A Future In Professional Wrestling?
While major companies in America might not bother to pick up someone like Sullivan due to his rough reputation? He might still be able to find work in smaller indy promotions, or even somewhere like the NWA where he’d work fine as a throwback heel character. There is also a market for wrestlers of his style in Japan, where powerhouses are generally able to get over with fans.
Japan might be the best bet for Sullivan, provided he can keep his racist nature quiet. They are generally not as fussed about scandals from overseas, especially when they were just about a lower card talent in WWE who barely showed up on RAW & Smackdown.
Regardless of where he goes, his reputation will follow shortly behind. Do you think Lars Sullivan will be able to bounce back in professional wrestling? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
