Edge’s big win at the 2021 Royal Rumble followed a very common trend in his career. That being, over shadowing his longtime best friend and tag team partner, Christian. After seven years away from the ring, outside of one non-sanctioned match with Randy Orton that was more of an angle, Christian finally returned to the ring. He had his gear, his music, and even made it all the way to the final four of the Rumble match!
The moment wasn’t lost on Edge, who embraced his friend mid match before getting back to dealing with being one of the men who started the match. There was no backstabbing, and we very well could see some new matches from Edge & Christian, especially if Edge has his way.
Edge Wants A Full Tag Team Run With Christian
While speaking with Esquire Middle East, Edge would talk about a variety of topics, from winning the rumble to his hopes after the return of Christian.
“I’ve known he’s been cleared for a little while, right? I knew all of these things. Then, when it’s actually happening, you’re in the moment, you’re in the pocket. That’s when you get everything that you’ve been feeling for this last little while, and it’s able to come out and it just so happens to be able to come out on screen and that that’s a beautiful thing,”
Then when asked about how he’d feel about reuniting with Christian as a tag team partner.
“I would love it. I think I think at some point that would need to happen, just because there’s so many opportunities there between Edge and Christian against The Usos , or I mean, man, Edge and Christian against the New Day, Edge and Christian against Ziggler and Roode, Edge and Christian versus the Street Profits. Not for nothing, Edge and Christian versus Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Yeah. There’s some stuff there.”
Massively Elevating The Tag Team Division
While this would be fairly similar to the return runs of Team Extreme or The Dudley Boyz, this one would have extra spice given that both Edge & Christian have just returned from medically forced retirements. E&C remains one of the most iconic tag teams in WWE history, and is composed of two men who would go on to become World Champions.
Putting them in the ring with any of the modern tag teams would massively elevate the division, just like how a Rated RKO reunion would have in 2021. Both the RAW & Smackdown Tag Team Championships are currently lacking in value, due to WWE having a serious lack of focus on the division.
