The Royal Rumble at the end of January was one of the most exciting PPVs from top to bottom in recent years, but it didn’t go under the radar that there was one massive return. Christian’s return was an unexpected one during the men’s Rumble, and there is every expectancy that Captain Charisma will be working in the ring more often going forward after being cleared.
There are rumours that he could be in tag team action with Edge before Mania, but could we see a big match for the returning superstar himself at Mania this year. And, if the answer to that is yes, who could he potentially face?
WWE News: Randy Orton
The most logical rivalry that Christian could get involved in is with Randy Orton. Orton famously had a short match with Christian on Raw last year to defend Edge. However, it ended far too quickly as Ric Flair cost Captain Charisma on his grand return. He was also put on the shelf by Orton after taking a punt to the head, which means that the story is already there for the two of them to tell.
There is also history between the pair, as they competed on numerous occasions for the World Heavyweight title back in the 00s. However, any chance of this match happening at Mania looks unlikely, as Orton will likely face off against The Fiend.
WWE News: Mustafa Ali
It’s fair to say that Retribution’s run on the main roster has been nothing short of a disaster. At this point, they are irrelevant on Raw, and no longer have the fear that they once had when they first arrived back on Monday night what felt like years ago now.
There is no denying that Mustafa Ali remains a star that the WWE could build, and a match against Christian could make him, and the group relevant once again. It would make sense for the match to happen, as Retribution are against part-timers coming back and stealing the spotlight.
WWE News: Jey Uso
One likely route that the WWE could take is Edge challenging for the Universal Championship and setting up a tag match between Reigns and Jey Uso against Edge and Christian at the final PPV before Mania. This could immediately segway into a match between Uso and Christian at Mania this year.
Uso has been an exceptional worker over the past year or so, and his star as a singles superstar has reached heights that not many could have foreseen. The best way to cap his exciting year would be with a match against Captain Charisma.
