Despite coming into AEW as a bit of a rookie, Tay Conti has certainly made an impact so far. She’s been able to even pin Nyla Rose all the way back in the Deadly Draw tournament, but Rose got her win back in the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator tournament. Tonight, we have the rubber match, as Conti & Rose clash again. This time however, Tay Conti is ranked #1 on the AEW Women’s Rankings, so she’s as close as ever to a title shot and will do everything to keep that spot.
Nyla Rose Flaunts Her Power
Dark Order had the back of Tay Conti tonight, but Rose hit a pounce to start this match before stomping on the midsection of Conti. Conti would be hit with a scoop slam, but countered the second and applied an octopus stretch before moving into an armbreaker. Rose would have her size used against her, as she hit some judo style throws, only to be run down with a lariat.
Conti had her fingers bitten by Rose, before being choked on the ropes. Rose would be rolled up for a two count once Conti was free, before coming back with another lariat. Conti was draped over the top rope, before Rose hit the diving knee strike to the back of Conti. This got a two count, before Conti threw some strikes, and ended up in a Camel Clutch.
Rose pulled at the face of Conti in the hold, before shoving her face right into the mat. As the referee was distracted, Guerrero took a quick slap at Conti from ringside, and Conti went after her before being attacked from behind. Back in the ring, Rose hit a neckbreaker, setting up a cocky one count.
Tay Conti Gets Her Biggest Win Ever
Conti would be hit with a delayed vertical suplex, but another arrogant cover from Rose only got a one count. Rose applied a modified chin lock, only to take a jawbreaker as Conti fought out. A sidewalk slam would have been followed by a flipping senton, but Conti got the knees up.
Conti had Rose cornered, and she hit two running knee strikes before looking for the DDTay, but Rose fought free. Rose was set up through the middle ropes, and took a knee strike to the head. Conti kicked Rose in the back of the head, before jumping over her head and being hit with a lariat. Rose went for the Beast Bomb, but Conti countered. Some quick kicks allowed Conti to hit another two running knee strikes and the DDTay for the win.
Tay Conti just pinned a former AEW Women’s Champion clean in the ring, while ranked #1. When will she get her title shot? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
