Rikishi has opened up on a situation in his life during which he was nearly shot to death during his teenage years.
Rikishi: ‘A Bullet Actually Hit The Side Of My Rib’
The shots occurred in the aftermath of a drive-by shooting, but destiny had other plans as Rikishi survived and made a full recovery. Although he was hospitalised for two months, it did not stop him from becoming a wrestling great.
In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Rikishi shockingly revealed how he would like to meet the shooter. He said: “Well, I hope, I mean, one day, if you’re watching this here, and you think you know who I am, I would like to personally meet you. And I would like to… I’m going to say this in case I don’t have a chance to. I forgive you, man.”
But why would a victim want to meet his shooter? It seems that Rikishi is the type of man who is keen on mentoring people and adopting a father figure role in people’s lives. Take, for example, his recent work with rapper Bow Wow. He has taken the rapper under his wing and is pulling out all the stops to ensure that he can enter the wrestling world.
As such, his next comments should be read in light of that: “I forgive you for what has happened to me, for what you have done to me. And I hope you can learn from what has happened. But not only that, to ..and being a better person.”
Those are some very courageous words, given that most people find it hard to forgive at all, let alone when they have been shot by the person and been a victim. So how close was Rikishi to death? Well, almost as good as gone, only for a miracle of circumstances to intervene.
He continued: “They [doctors] just said that the bullet, it was a twenty-two, actually hit the side of my rib, which saved my heart. Had that rib not need there, it would have gone through my heart, and we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
It is extraordinary just how tough Rakishi is, and it serves as an example of how great wrestlers can be. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
