Mark Henry has spoken on how he lied in order to kickstart Daniel Bryan’s career.
Mark Henry Lied To Get Daniel Bryan’s Career Started
Daniel, for his part, is now a mainstay in the wrestling business, which makes it hard to believe that he would struggle to get a look in. And yet, that is what seems to have happened in the early stages of his career. In an interview on BT Sports, Mark said: “I had to lie to everybody’s face to get Daniel Bryan looked at.
“They wanted guys who were big and huge. And I said, ‘this guy is like 6’1, 200 lbs. He can get it done.” The decision to do that was the best thing that could ever have happened. After all, we only have to look at Bryan’s resume. He has been involved in major world title battles and brought the spoils home on more than one occasion.
He has four WWE Championships and a WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Having said that, those high up in the wrestling business did need some convincing to give Bryan a shot. He added: “Then he got there, and they were like ‘that guy’s not 6’1!’ And I said that he must’ve had lifts in his shoes.” Mark, however, managed to persuade them and was confident in Bryan’s ability to get things done.
This is true even today as Bryan is due to take on another monster challenge, as he will be in his third World title match at WrestleMania very soon. But Mark always knew he had this potential. He continued: “I knew he was really good. Sometimes when you’re really good, it don’t matter what your size is.
“And he was one of those guys that I just knew. I was like, ‘man, this guy is a really, really excellent wrestler, excellent psychologist.” This talent for wrestling is in the family as Bryan’s wife, Brie Bella, was recently inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame. While Brie’s sister Nikki Bella had thanked John Cena for the role he had played in their development, there is no doubt that Bryan has also contributed to her success.
