Champion vs. Champion matches are always a big deal, especially when they are a cross promotion type of deal. That’s what we have coming up with Impact Wrestling World Champion Rich Swann taking on All Elite Wrestling World Champion Kenny Omega. It goes down on April 25th at Impact Wrestling Rebellion 2021, headlining a very strong card. Making it even bigger is that Impact Wrestling got one of the best announcers in the world on board to call this match, that being Mauro Ranallo.

Mauro Ranallo Is Becoming A Top Name In Combat Sports

While his time calling WWE Smackdown & NXT or even his time doing NJPW English commentary is why most fans recognize the name of The Bipolar Rock and Roller? It’s his calling of Floyd Mayweather vs. Connor McGregor that makes him such a huge name right now. Ranallo’s high energy style is infectious and lends to a big fight feel wonderfully, making him excellent for boxing & MMA bouts, but also in professional wrestling.

Him being involved added another level of hype to this major match between Kenny Omega & Rich Swann, which is likely to be the highest drawing match for Impact Wrestling in recent years. Impact Wrestling is treating it like a huge deal, setting up press conferences and everything. But how exactly did they get Ranallo on board?

A Gift To His Father

During the April 16th edition of his podcast, aptly named MAUROLOGUE, Mauro Ranallo would explain what led him to Impact Wrestling for this match. He’d start by mentioning that it was his late fathers birthday, and one of the things they bonded over was professional wrestling, and his gift to his father is agreeing to call this historic main event.

Ranallo called matches for both Omega & Swann previously, Omega in NJPW and Swann in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic. Scott D’Amore was the one who invited him to make his return to professional wrestling, which Ranallo gladly accepted, and is excited to be at ringside for. This match now has the talent, the hype, the storyline, and the right announcer. It’s only missing a crowd for a potential five star match.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
