Last week on WWE NXT, KUSHIDA shocked everyone when he answered the open challenge of WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar. Escobar had just unified his Cruiserweight Championship with that of Jordan Devlin in a ladder match at NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver, and was riding high. This ended with him falling a quick pinfall to KUSHIDA, giving us a new Cruiserweight Champion. Tomorrow night on NXT, KUSHIDA will celebrate as the new champion, and all eyes are on him. This includes the eyes of former NXT North American Champion, Ricochet.
Crashing The Celebration Of KUSHIDA
Whenever someone is celebrating as a champion and it’s announced ahead of time, you can’t help but sense that something will go wrong. They will usually have someone confront them, to either start a brawl or set up a future match. It’s written in the Pro Wrestling 101 textbook probably, it happens that often. There is a strong chance that one of the members of Legado Del Fantasma interrupts, but Ricochet put his name in the mix as well.
It just took one emoji on the Instagram post announcing this segment from Ricochet to drum up speculation on this front. Wrestlers often will just do things like this on their own to get fans talking, but considering how rocky things on the main roster are for Ricochet, a move to NXT might be for the best.
A potential way this goes is that KUSHIDA gets outnumbered by Legado Del Fantasma, Ricochet makes the save, a tag match happens, Ricochet & KUSHIDA win, and the challenge is laid. It’s simple, but a set up that’s not hard to see with NXT.
Ricochet Has Unfinished Business In WWE NXT
When Ricochet moved up to the main roster alongside Aleister Black as a tag team, fans were rightfully worried. While he did get a WWE Championship match with Brock Lesnar along the way, he also got squashed like a bug in that encounter. A single uneventful reign as United States Champion was all he got on the main roster.
Meanwhile, during his time in NXT he was consistently booked as a top attraction on the brand. He was the second ever NXT North American Champion, and a winner of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. However, there was a lot more for him in NXT, and still is. He never challenged for the NXT Championship, and does fit the weight limit and style for a shot at the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
Nothing is set in stone, but many are going to be hoping to hear his theme song tomorrow night on NXT. Do you think Ricochet will return to NXT? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
