This is a dream match for many, including the two involved in the match. Rhea Ripley is finally out of NXT and ready to show the RAW Women’s Champion why she’s called The Nightmare. However, however good Ripley was as NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka was better.
Few to this day have been ready for Asuka, and with the bright lights of Wrestlemania adding extra pressure, we could see Ripley once again crack under pressure like last year against Charlotte Flair.
Rhea Ripley Gets Star Treatment
Ripley got the live music treatment as Ash Costello would sing her to the ring. A big entrance is often a bad omen, as shown by Big E losing after Wale sung him down, but maybe she can break the curse. Ripley took some kicks early on from Asuka, before being rolled around into a dropkick.
Asuka missed a hip attack in the corner, before throwing a roundhouse kick in the corner and missing. Ripley would rush in, but get tripped up and hit the middle turnbuckle. She’d slip outside, but Asuka followed and hit the pop up knee strike. Back in the ring, Asuka hit a kick to the back, before Ripley hit a facebuster and sent Asuka into the mat hard.
Ripley applied a tight waist lock with her legs, flipping Asuka over and slapping her in the back of the head. Asuka would get free, but Ripley kicked her while she was still down before hitting a short arm clothesline. Ripley went for the ripcord kick, but Asuka countered into a kneebar. She’d somehow counter into a German Suplex, but the damage was done.
Ripley remained in control by slamming Asuka into the corner, slowing the pace down before hitting some shoulder tackles into the kidneys. Asuka fought free and hit the missile dropkick off the top rope, mainly just buying her time to regroup and catch her breath.
Asuka Gives One Of The Hardest Fights Ripley Ever Felt
Ripley would be hit with the release German Suplex before a hip attack in the corner. She’d block another German Suplex, but got cut down and hit with a hip attack to the head. Asuka up top again, but took a dropkick from Ripley and tumbled to the apron. Ripley hit the reverse alabama slam onto that hardest part of the ring.
Asuka simply came back with an insane DDT off the apron, and would have taken a count out win. Ripley came back into the ring to be kicked to the head, but was able to counter the sliding knee strike. Asuka would be locked in the Prism Lock, but was able to roll through to counter and apply an armbar.
Ripley managed to break free, before Asuka went to the apron and suplexed back into the ring. An attempt at the German Suplex was countered into an armbar, before shifting into the Asuka Lock. Ripley rolled into the well known counter, but only got a two count. She’d ask to be kicked by Asuka, and quickly counter into the Riptide the win!!
