We’re just a few days away from the next All Elite Wrestling (AEW) PPV event, Double Or Nothing. During this show, we are expected to see a new member of the AEW roster unveiled during the casino battle royale. However, that might not be all the additions to the AEW roster over the next while. Tony Khan himself seems to think it’s time to expand the roster.
Tony Khan Locking Down Their Still Unsigned Names And Rolling Out Some Surprises?
This news comes from the latest episode of the AEW Unrestricted Podcast. Khan would be onboard to help promote the coming PPV, and not even five minutes into the show he would mention that “I think we have to start expanding the roster” and “new people coming into the roster.” While at first this feels a bit ridiculous, given how many names are regularly showcased on AEW Dynamite and both variants of Dark.
However, a lot of these names aren’t actually signed. For example, Thunder Rosa, Griff Garrison, & Brian Pillman Jr, who all have main evented Dynamite aren’t officially announced to be signed to AEW. It’s likely they’re at least close to a contract given their prominence on the card, but nothing has been made official.
These would properly expand the roster, but Khan also made mention of new people coming in. Given that WWE recently cut a lot of talent, including a proper legend in Samoa Joe and some very talented individuals with years at the top of the card ahead of them like Andrade & Peyton Royce, we could see a lot of major names pop up as AEW gets back on the road.
Getting Back On The Road And Gaining A Third Hour Of TV To Fill Could Have Anxieties High
Add in that in 2022, they’ll have a second weekly TV show in AEW: Mayhem, and you can see why AEW might be sweating a bit over the size of their roster. They’re already regularly showcasing unsigned talent on Dynamite, and that’s also the main point of both Dark & Dark: Elevation. While that works when hanging out in Florida, on the road they need to have a solid roster they can depend on week by week.
This is likely why they’re going to scramble to expand and secure their roster. Lots of talented names have hit the AEW ring over the past year, and Khan has likely been doing his best to keep track of who performed the best in the ring, and who fit in backstage.
