There is no more fitting nickname in WWE right now than that of Buddy Murphy. For years now, he’s been simply calling himself the ‘Best Kept Secret’ and whenever he gets a chance, he instantly proves why. Murphy has been with WWE since 2013, and in that time has had moderate success, holding the NXT Tag Team Championships, NXT Cruiserweight Championship, and RAW Tag Team Championships. However, he might very well be the most underutilized wrestler on the entire roster.
He’s proven time and time again that he is one of the best wrestlers they have. If you don’t believe that, simply go watch his matches with Roman Reigns, Mustafa Ali or Aleister Black and his actions will speak louder than my words ever could. We might be seeing more names added to that list, as Murphy teases a return to the Cruiserweight division.
Buddy Murphy Is Down To 199lbs
Recently, Murphy has not been seen much on Smackdown Live, his current home on the WWE roster. He’s shown up a couple times alongside his old tag team partner in Seth Rollins, but has only wrestled three matches in 2021. It’s not an injury, as seen by Murphy taking to Twitter to point out “Friendly reminder… I can still wrestle!” as a reply to the WWE Network account showing clips from one of his matches with Mustafa Ali.
He simply has been overlooked, and now seems to be trying to do something about it. Yesterday on Instagram, Murphy showed a picture of where his body is at. He’s down to 199lbs, and frankly most of it seems to be muscle. Him pointing how that his weight is below the 205lb limit could be a major clue as to what is coming next for Murphy.
The Cruiserweight Division is on the rise once again, with KUSHIDA as champion and new talent being added to the mix. Putting one of their most well loved former champions back would only help it rise further, especially someone as talented as Murphy. This would also put him back in NXT in general, as 205 Live is linked to NXT.
