Tomorrow night on WWE NXT TV, Finn Balor has a chance to become a three time NXT Champion, as he gets his rematch against Karrion Kross. Balor has been on a roll since returning to NXT, and he’s done so as himself. We haven’t seen him pull out his alter-ego of ‘The Demon’ in years now, with him able to win big matches without it. Despite this, he isn’t committed to keeping it away forever.
Finn Balor Is Liking Being His True Self
While speaking with Ryan Satin on the Out Of Character podcast, Balor would go in-depth about his Demon persona for the first time in a while.
“I remember when I signed with WWE, a lot of people said, ‘You can forget about doing those crazy entrances.’ I was in NXT for about a month and Triple H came to me and said, ‘Talk to me about this painting and what it’s all about.’ I explained it to him in terms of how I had been using it on the Independent level as a spectacular entrance to spontaneous moments that could be changed depending on the location or the opponent. For WWE, they really needed to make it as part of the character and not like ‘it’s cool’ but more to ‘why do you transform from Finn to Demon.’
That’s when we developed the dark side of the Balor character and Finn being the good side of the character. It was an evolution and I’m not really sure, looking back, if that’s how I wanted it to be handled or if it got too far from where it was or if it made it better, I don’t really know. In ten years’ time, looking back, I might go ‘we did it right’ or ‘we messed it up,’ I don’t know yet. There’s still some life left in the Demon character, but right now I’m happy being the Prince and I feel like this is my most true self in my WWE tenure,”
What Would Cause Balor To Bring The Demon Back Out?
At this point, it’s going to take a major challenge to draw The Demon back out of Finn Balor. If it was the intention of not, WWE has built up a major moment of it’s return. This break from using it has made fans crave it, as it’s not being pulled out for a match with someone like Baron Corbin.
It’s hard to imagine what it would take for Balor to bring his side of his character back out. If he was on Smackdown Live, it’d be a way to boost Balor up to face Roman Reigns, but in NXT? Karrion Kross is the most dangerous man around, and Balor prefers to just wrestle him as himself. We could only see Balor bring this back when he gets desperate, and that seems like something that is a long way off.
