Right now in WWE, there is an unassuming name that has the potential to be a massive star. This is Otis, former Money In The Bank holder and member of the ill-fated tag team of Heavy Machinery. In 2020 before the pandemic took the fan aspect away from WWE, he was an easy favorite of crowds, thanks in part to the excellent love story told alongside Mandy Rose.
Since then, he’s fallen hard. Following a match with Dolph Ziggler at Wrestlemania, the storyline romance with Rose was all but forgotten. He’d win Money in The Bank and do nothing with it, Heavy Machinery was broken up without any purpose, and now he’s in another tag team with Chad Gable. This partnership with Gable has shown some of his grappling potential, but Daniel Bryan seems a lot more in a man like Otis.
Daniel Bryan Sees A Vader Type Run Possible With Otis
It’s no secret that a lot of fans see most WWE talent as being underused. This most commonly comes up with the faster more agile members of the roster, names like Ricochet, Cedric Alexander, and Mustafa Ali. However, it’s not just these cruiserweights who don’t get to show their full potential. Someone like Otis has a lot of potential outside of basic power moves, and Daniel Bryan sees that when he looks at Otis. During a recent interview with BarStool Sports Robbie Fox, Daniel Bryan was speaking on members of the WWE roster who have deeper potential. Otis would be mentioned in that.
“I don’t think people truly understand how great a lot of WWE superstars are because we don’t necessarily put on a pure wrestling product, we put on a sports entertainment product. If all of a sudden you saw Cesaro in New Japan, people would be like, ‘This guy is the greatest.’ If you put Otis in New Japan, people would be like, ‘Holy cow, this guy is amazing.’ Like, Vader from the 90s type vibe. It’s just a different presentation. I think it would be a cool and unique contribution in wrestling, as far as giving back.”
Uncanny Charisma And An Undeniable Love From Fans Would Follow Him
If Otis ever left WWE to truly test himself in a pure wrestling product like Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling, he would have his fanbase following him. His unique charisma alone draws fans to him, and if you combined that with truly unleashing his potential in the ring? Any company could have Otis as a star.
Sadly, WWE doesn’t seem to let this potential out, even when the fans are firmly behind someone. It’s a common issue that can be noted all through their history. If the folks backstage running the show don’t see a role for them, even when the fans are asking for it? It won’t happen. This is hopefully changing, as we see Cesaro & Big E get big pushes to the top on Smackdown Live, but time will tell if Otis ever actually gets his chance.
