Later this month, New Japan Pro Wrestling was set to bring two huge stadium shows to their fans. One from Yokohama Stadium, and another from Tokyo Dome. These events were highly anticipated by fans and talent, as they would allow a lot of fans to see NJPW live once again. However, they will need to be patient, as NJPW has been forced to postpone the Wrestle Grand Slam events.

State Of Emergency In Japan Due To COVID-19 Forces NJPW To Postpone Wrestle Grand Slam

On May 7th in Japan, their government announced an extension to the state of emergency that was in place within Tokyo and other prefectures. After already having to cancel the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match at Wrestling Dontaku Night Two due to COVID-19 related concerns, it’s clear NJPW would take this very seriously.

As such, to help protect their roster and prevent further spread of the virus, these two huge stadium shows have been rescheduled. News dates are being finalized and will be announced when possible, but they won’t be on May 15th or 29th at this time. Any tickets bought will be valid, and full refunds will be around for those who can’t make the new dates.

Will Ospreay Comments

On May 29th, Will Ospreay was going to defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Kazuchika Okada. It was his chance to finally fully surpass his mentor, but now he will have to wait. He’d take to Twitter to cut a promo on Okada, saying that this was a great birthday gift.

Ospreay knew it was about fan safety, and thanks the fans for understanding. But he can’t help but feel this is a giant excuse, with Okada going above and beyond to avoid getting his ass kicked in the Tokyo Dome by Ospreay. Okada went to the Japanese Government and got them to lock the country down for more time just to avoid Ospreay! You can watch his promo here.

Do you think Kazuchika Okada will become IWGP World Heavyweight Champion when the Tokyo Dome show gets to happen? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
