Following a fan poll on the ROH Experience facebook page asking which tournaments they should bring back, we have Survival of The Fittest 2021. This tournament was last seen in 2018, before being shelved in 2019, but now it’s back. Twelve men will enter into qualifying matches, with six advancing to the chaotic six way elimination match. On Ring of Honor Week by Week, we’d see the field and matchups announced.
Who Is In Survival Of The Fittest 2021?
The twelve men with a chance to advance in this tournament are all men who have never held the ROH World Championship in their careers. On the left side of the bracket we have Rey Horus taking on Flamita, in another clash following the split of MexiSquad. Eli Isom has a rematch with Dak Draper, after their recent encounter on ROH TV that ended in a time limit draw. Finally, Bandido takes on Bateman.
The right side of the bracket starts with Brian Johnson taking on Sledge. Chris Dickinson will look to follow up his 17 second win over Eric Martin by taking out O’Shay Edwards, and Danhausen takes on ROH veteran Rhett Titus.
These matches will air over the coming weeks on ROH TV, with the Survival of The Fittest match likely to take place at their next PPV event, Best In The World. It will be a six man elimination match, with the last man standing earning a shot at the ROH World Championship, which is currently held by RUSH.
Who Is The Most Likely Winner?
Out of this field, only a few names stand out as potential winners. Folks like Eli Isom, Sledge or Brian Johnson aren’t ready for a main event match yet, while others like Bateman or O’Shay Edwards could be believable but lack fan interest. Danhausen could slip through as an underdog pick, being similar to Orange Cassidy in All Elite Wrestling. The top picks by many fans are Chris Dickinson or Bandido.
Dickinson is just getting started with ROH, and as a member of VLNCE UNLTD who has taken aim at claiming all the gold in ROH? He’s got the skills and the motivation to pull this off. Bandido meanwhile has been one of the fan favorites for years, and following the breakup of MexiSquad is ready to break out as a major singles star.
