The WWE has taken tons of heat over the years for micromanaging and lying to their faces with none more memorable than the Montreal Screwjob, and now Tucker is throwing his hat into the ring.
As part of Heavy Machinery, Tucker was often overlooked by fans because of Otis’ charisma and larger than life projection of himself.
Since nearly everyone knows the WWE hates to keep a tag team together, many fans expected Tucker was a place holder until Otis was ready to go solo.
Well, about that…
Part of Spring releases
Tucker was released as part of WWE’s yearly release fest with other talent in April.
It came following Heavy Machinery being drafted to separate brands despite the option to keep them together.
Tucker later turned on Otis after betraying him, but they never had a match as they were on different brands, making this feel like a badly planned idea gone sideways, and it seems it wasn’t just fans noticing it.
When he was released, Tucker said he had an interesting story to tell, and according to Cagesideseats (Special thanks to them for the transcript), he spoke to WrestleTalk about not being told their team splitting until the last second:
“I was never told (about the split) really. The first time I found out that it might happen was at TVs the day that we did the Talking Smack segment (for the draft), I found out a couple of hours before that, ‘Hey we’re gonna do this Talking Smack thing where they’re gonna say that like…’, but it wasn’t like a hard split really, because they were just putting us on different brands and they were kayfabing everybody on what was up. And then a few weeks later we do the El Gran Gordo thing with Otis in a mask pretending not to be Otis, and then I think the split happened two days after that. I wasn’t booked that day, the day the split happened, I wasn’t booked to be on the show that day. And then I got a call at like 1:00 in the afternoon saying, ‘Hey, we need you to come to the arena’. I’m like, ‘Okay…’. And then I wasn’t even told until, I don’t even know, like 3:30 or 4:00 what was gonna go down. And that plans changed a couple of times, and looking back on it, I don’t know this, but I’m very sure, I feel confident that the way that it happened was so that I wouldn’t ask a bunch of questions, and so that I would kinda be frazzled into doing it, which is exactly what ended up happening.”
On Otis winning MITB:
According to the above linked article, Tucker was supposed to go to Raw to take part in Raw Underground, but when that segment was shut down he was stuck without being on TV.
We’ve heard story after story over the years that make the WWE backstage sound chaotic at the nest of times despite the well thought out and planned for storyline Bret Hart and others said they saw written down.
