Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera entered the octagon looking for revenge at UFC Vegas 29. The Ecuadorian wanted to settle the score with Davey Grant, who defeated him in 2016.
The duel between Marlon Vera and Davey Grant was an intense battle in which the Ecuadorian started slow but gradually imposed his rhythm. At the end of three rounds, the bloody face of the British was unequivocal evidence of who had won the fight.
Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera takes bloody lead against Davey Grant
At the beginning of the fight it was Davey who was aggressive and connected the best punches. Marlon kept his cool and attacked Grant’s front leg to slow him down. Gradually ‘Chito’ began to add punches to his combinations and soon after the elbows appeared. In fact, that would be one of the keys to victory in the second round. Multiple cuts appeared on Davey after an effective attack by Marlon in the clinch.
Grant tried to take the fight to the canvas to stop taking punishment. Initially it worked, but the Ecuadorian’s jiu jitsu came to the fore and helped him improve positions and control the action on the canvas as well.
In fact, with just under a minute left in the final round, it looked like ‘Chito’ could submit Grant. However, the Brit clung to Vera’s arms and resisted the choke.
In the end there was no doubt, the decision clearly favored the Ecuadorian unanimously (29-27, 29-28, 30-26).
In this way, Vera seeks to regain consistency and get back to winning ways, because although he is 7-2 in his most recent nine appearances, he has alternated between wins and losses in his last four fights.
