Argentina’s Santiago Ponzinibbio returns to winning ways by knocking out undefeated Miguel Baeza at UFC Vegas 28.
From the start of the fight both men came out looking for distance to throw punches. Ponzinibbio began to press to close the distance and was able to connect on a couple of occasions to Baeza. For his part, Miguel kept offensive with kicks to the leg and to the body. The Puerto Rican’s strategy began to pay off when Santiago’s leg appeared to be compromised.
Santiago Ponzinibbio beats Miguel Baeza in explosive stand-up fight
Towards the close of the round, the Argentinian looked to close strong by throwing forward. Santiago tried ten or twelve punches but only a couple penetrated Baeza’s guard.
In the second episode they would again provide an entertaining fight exchanging blows to the center of the octagon on several occasions. Initially it was Baeza who seemed to take advantage, but little by little Ponzinibbio began to come from behind. The Argentinean made it clear that he would leave everything in the cage to seek victory and reverse the momentum of the fight.
Entering the last round of the fight, the fighters’ faces were very different. Baeza looked worried and Ponzinibbio was on fire. Miguel was losing energy as the round progressed, while Santiago began to be more effective with his punches. In addition, the Argentinian was defending Baeza’s kicking attempts well and responded in kind.
They closed the fight planted in the center of the cage exchanging shrapnel. At all times the Argentinean got the better part and connected more volume. In the end the effort was reflected in the judges’ scorecards and Ponzinibbio took the fight by unanimous decision.
