Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn are truly destined to fight forever. Following their clash at Wrestlemania 37, hostilities only kept going as Zayn continued to buy into the conspiracy against him. Owens is determined to get his friend back, and tonight will try to beat some sense into Zayn, especially after Zayn interfered in a recent tag team match to attack Owens over not supporting him.
Tonight will be their 17th one on one match in WWE, with KO having won 10, Zayn winning 3, and the other three ending in a no contest. With KO having taken two Nigerian Nails from Commander Aziz on Smackdown, he likely won’t be 100% tonight, giving Zayn a rare edge.
Kevin Owens Has A Hard Time Keeping His Breath
They’d start off with a hockey-like brawl, with Owens driving Zayn into the corner. Some heavy strikes dropped Zayn, as did a hard irish whip into the corner, with Zayn landing on his head after bouncing off. Owens was showing some trouble breathing, but was able to maintain control in the early moments, hitting a back elbow and running senton.
Zayn would gain control with some punches in the corner, before taking a knife edge chop. A lariat to the throat would take Owens down, smartly attacking the injury. Owens hit a lariat into the corner before the cannonball, staying in the fight and getting a two count. Zayn would send Owens’ throat first into the middle rope, sending him to the outside for a dive to the outside.
Owens would get some distance between him and Zayn and get back into the ring, with Owens having potentially injured his wrist. Zayn went against the word of the official and hit a big boot to the side of the head. Owens would be stomped out, and sent to the outside. Zayn followed him out, but Owens got back into the ring and got a double leg takedown for some mounted blows.
Sami Zayn Outlasts Owens
Owens followed Zayn back outside, and hit a hard lariat before going for a senton bomb off the apron and met two knees. Back in the ring, Zayn hit the Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count. Owens could barely keep his hands up, as he chopped away at Zayn and hit a big boot. Zayn countered a stunner attempt into a Half & Half Suplex for a two count.
Owens slipped outside to catch his breath, and when Zayn followed he’d be hit with a stunner. He’d only get moving at the count of seven, and barely broke the count. Zayn was bleeding from the mouth, Owens could barely use his left arm, and they’d keep on fighting. Owens nailed a headbutt and some stomps, becoming unhinged.
Zayn would follow up by pulling the left arm into the ropes before hitting a knee strike to the back of the head. Owens hit the ropes throat first, and he stumbled into position for the Helluva Kick, getting Zayn the win.
Even with Kevin Owens selling an injury from Friday Night, he and Zayn found a way to put on another great performance. These two can’t have a bad match when given the time, and the storytelling and late match action brought this one up. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
