The NXT UK Women’s division is on the rise with a new champion in Meiko Satomura, and two new names are fighting to get a spot in the hunt. We’ve previously seen Stevie Turner on NXT UK, but Laura Di Matteo is new to NXT UK. Matteo has previously wrestled for Progress, where she had a notable feud with Jinny.
Two Promising Newcomers Duke It Out
Before the match, it would be mentioned that Stevie Turner is dedicating any success she finds in WWE to her late stablemate from STARDOM. Turner was a part of the Tokyo Cyber Squad with the late Hana Kimura. These two would lock up and Turner flaunted a power advantage, before hitting a neck snap.
A cravat would be applied, before Turner took Di Matteo to the mat with a snapmare. Di Matteo would show her submission skills as she quickly escaped the rear chinlock with ease. Turner would trip Di Matteo onto the ropes and hit a kick to the face, before a running forearm. Back in the ring, another forearm got a two count, before a pump kick.
Turner would apply a straight-jacket hold and pull Di Matteo down to the mat, but would be fought off and sent across the ring for a lariat. A dropkick in the corner would show promise for Di Matteo, until Turner dodged and hit a neckbreaker. Finally, Turner would hit a flatliner off the ropes, getting the win.
Oliver Carter Shows Hart, But Teoman Is Dangerous
Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith are a talented tag team in NXT UK, but when it comes to singles action they tend to come up short. Now add in someone like Teoman, who is both trying to break them physically and drive a wedge between him and Smith, and you have perhaps the toughest test yet for WWE. Tonight, he clashes with Teoman, and will need to wrestle the match of his life to survive.
Teoman quickly went after the arm of Carter, and took him down to the mat. Carter slipped free and dodged a forearm strike on the mat. Teoman would catch him with a strike while they were standing, but only fired him up. Carter nailed a leg lariat and sent Teoman to the outside, where he tried to catch Carter in the ring apron, but this was scouted.
Teoman would slam the arm of Carter off the steel steps when he came outside, and back in the ring he would focus in on it. Carter was left with one good arm, but that won’t do against such a dangerous opponent. He was taken to the mat and narrowly avoided the crossface and a fujiwara armbar by getting the ropes. Teoman went for a springboard, but Carter dodged and hit one of his own.
Carter got a superkick for a two count, before hitting a Booker T style Scissor Kick, and hooked both legs. He’d still only get a two count before Teoman hit a diving DDT. Carter kicked out of the pinfall, only to end up in the crossface. Following the match, Teoman would be sent back when Rohan Raja hit the ring as Carter was locked in the crossface again. Teoman injured the arm of Raja in a recent encounter, but Raja would lay out an already weak Carter.
Both men gave a solid performance here, with Carter showing some babyface fire. The post match beatdown from Teoman & Rohan Raja helped to boost this one in terms of interest. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
