It begins again with WWE releases. Following WWE letting names like Braun Strowman, Buddy Murphy, Aleister Black, and more go earlier this year, there were still more names on the chopping block. Today saw two stalwarts of the Cruiserweight Division let go, as former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese & his ally Ariya Daivari have been let go from WWE.
Ariya Daivari Is Set To Appear In A Taped 205 Live Match Tonight
One thing that makes the timing of this release awkward is the taped nature of 205 Live. While it once was a live show that took place after Smackdown Live, 205 Live lately has been taped at the Capitol Wrestling Center as a way to get the fans ready for NXT. Because of this, tonight’s matches are ready to go, including Ikeman Jiro vs. Ariya Daivari.
So despite being let go from the company today, Daivari will still be on 205 Live tonight, where now a loss to Ikeman Jiro is even more obvious. Daivari has never been a high achiever in WWE, and mainly served as a steady hand to carry the division’s midcard.
Tony Nese Has The Potential To Do Great Things Elsewhere
While Daivari never showed much spark, Tony Nese on the other hand was a former Champion, and the only former champion who frequently still showed up on 205 Live. While he hasn’t had many in the win column in recent months, he’s been able to bring the best out of anyone he met in the ring. Even when limited to hitting his signature spots, Nese was always able to carry himself like a star.
It will not be hard to see him make an instant splash in the Impact Wrestling X-Division, the ROH Pure Rules division, or even in the New Japan Pro Wrestling Best of The Super Juniors tournament. WWE could have done a lot more with Nese, but never chose to bring him up to the main roster.
With Nese & Daivari left, the only members of the Cruiserweight Classic left on 205 Live are The Bollywood Boyz. Mustafa Ali, Cedric Alexander & Drew Gulak are still around on RAW, and Noam Dar is in NXT UK. Where do you expect Nese & Daivari to go following their WWE release?
